This is the Easton Axis 5mm shaft I’m building around, and I like it because it’s a sweet spot between penetration, wind drift, and easy-to-find components. I’m running the match-grade .001" straightness, and it’s been a consistent performer for how I hunt public land whitetails.
Pros
- +5mm diameter gives better penetration than 6.5mm with less friction
- +Less wind drift than wider shafts due to reduced surface area
- +Strong aftermarket support for nocks and inserts
- +Match-grade .001" straightness for consistency
Cons
- -Not as penetration-focused as 4mm micro-diameter arrows
- -If you go heavy up front, you may need to spine up from what the chart suggests
