I learned about mesh baselayers from a recent video from @TheBearEssentials He does a much better job at explaining how and why mesh base layers work, so make sure to check out his video over here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5UWkorZlvY Two other good videos about mesh base layers by @MidwestBackpacker and @GruntProof : 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPhtke_IVfM 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdVaDGrtTnc Here is the Brynje Mesh Base Layer that I'm using (affiliate link) ➜ https://www.brynjeusa.com/product/unisex-long-sleeve-shirt-super-thermo/ref/16/ In this video, I finally test my new mesh base layer. I've been testing it on and off since the end of November 2023, but in this video, I do a comprehensive test to compare it with synthetic and merino wool base layers. Not to spoil anything, but it turns out that mesh base layers actually are that good. I wonder why we aren't talking more about them? Also, one point that I forgot to mention in the video, is that you should always wear them underneath another layer. So for example, if you wear a mesh layer underneath a merino wool one, you'll be able to deal with the lowest of temperatures. ▼ THRU-HIKING POSTERS (MADE BY ME & MY GF) Shop hiking trail posters here ➜ https://trailgoals.com/ (10% discount code: oscarhikes) Instagram ➜ https://www.instagram.com/trail.goals/ ▼ OTHER GEAR I USE (affiliate links) Outdoor Vitals CS40 Ultralight Backpack ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fcs40-ultralight-backpack) Outdoor Vitals Fortius 2P Ultralight Tent ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Ffortius-2p-trekking-pole-backpacking-tent) Outdoor Vitals Stormloft 0F Quilt ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fupdate-stormloft-0-30-f-down-topquilt-sleeping-bag) Outdoor Vitals Novapro Down Jacket ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fnovapro) Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/3RJhVw9 ) Decathlon Forclaz Trek 100 Sleeping Pad ➜ (Decathlon: https://www.decathlon.com/products/backpacking-foam-folding-mattress-trek-100-174619) Decathlon Forclaz Trek 500L Self Inflating Sleeping Pad ➜ (Decathlon: https://www.decathlon.com/products/forclaz-trek-500l-self-inflating-backpacking-mattress-124065-124066 ) Stoic Nykroppa Synthetic Camp Slippers ➜ (Bergfreunde: https://www.bergfreunde.eu/stoic-nykroppa-slippers/) Smartwool Merino Wool Socks ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/4anHY3h) Darn Tough Merino Wool Socks ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/3GJnnsm) ▼ TABLE OF CONTENTS 00:00 - Intro 00:33 - About mesh layers 00:55 - How they work 01:56 - Testing 02:51 - Synthetic test 04:40 - Merino test 06:08 - Mesh test 08:37 - Trail Goals 09:06 - Summary ▼ FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA https://www.instagram.com/oscarbrumelis/ https://www.tiktok.com/@oscarhikes ▼ AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE In some of our videos, we sometimes use affiliate links.
