A year later, I reconsidered about hosting my own website, and somebody bought the domain name and created a blog there. In this video, I share my story of how I stopped getting blisters from hiking. I've talked about it here and there in my other videos, but I haven't made one dedicated video for this. With a combination of good Merino wool socks, good hiking shoes, and a few other important things, I haven't gotten a single blister on my feet in 3 years. ▼ HIKING GEAR I USE (affiliate links) Smartwool Merino Wool Socks ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/4anHY3h) Darn Tough Merino Wool Socks ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/3GJnnsm) Darn Tough Merino Wool Socks ➜ (Silverlight: https://alnk.to/7fjJUrx) Decathlon Forclaz MT100 Trekking Poles ➜ (Decathlon: https://www.decathlon.com/collections/hiking-camp-accessories/products/hiking-pole-arpenaz-200) Outdoor Vitals CS40 Ultralight Backpack ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fcs40-ultralight-backpack) Outdoor Vitals Fortius 2P Ultralight Tent ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Ffortius-2p-trekking-pole-backpacking-tent) Outdoor Vitals Stormloft 0F Quilt ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fupdate-stormloft-0-30-f-down-topquilt-sleeping-bag) Outdoor Vitals Novapro Down Jacket ➜ (Outdoor Vitals: https://www.avantlink.com/click.php?tool_type=cl&merchant_id=7e589116-9b06-4f1d-beee-aa18820b0454&website_id=00f5b60f-5b24-479f-ab2d-8d5328a2ac5a&url=https%3A%2F%2Foutdoorvitals.com%2Fproducts%2Fnovapro) Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad ➜ (Amazon: https://amzn.to/3RJhVw9 ) ▼ TABLE OF CONTENTS 00:00 - Intro 00:37 - Socks 02:08 - Squarespace 03:06 - Shoes 03:47 - Humidity 05:10 - Cleanliness 05:37 - Lacing Technique 06:51 - Sore Spots 07:12 - 2 Layers 07:46 - Outro ▼ FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA https://www.instagram.com/oscarbrumelis/ https://www.tiktok.com/@oscarhikes ▼ AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE In some of our videos, we sometimes use affiliate links. About This Video

When I was new to hiking, I used to get a ton of blisters. Switching to good hiking shoes and merino wool socks helped a lot for day hikes, but I was still getting wrecked on multi-day trips. So I kept refining my setup, and now I’m happy to say I haven’t gotten a single blister in 3 years. In this video, I break down exactly what changed for me so you can replicate it on your own hikes. The biggest thing, in my opinion, is good-quality merino wool socks—because moisture is the enemy. Cheap “merino” socks tend to be stretchier, move around more, wick worse, and wear out faster, which is basically a blister recipe. I also talk about why you should try hiking shoes on in person (they should feel perfect immediately), how wet conditions can still cause blisters even with a dialed setup, and what I do to manage humidity: airing out feet on breaks, carrying at least two pairs of socks, and keeping socks clean by rinsing them every couple days. I also show my lacing technique to keep the toe box looser while locking the heel down, plus when to tape hot spots (fast), and an optional trick if you’re still struggling: liner socks under your main socks so friction happens sock-on-sock instead of sock-on-skin.
