When I hear Mallorca, I think beaches, expensive hotels, and tourists—lots of tourists. But this island has another side: mountains, thick forests, unspoiled nature, and a bunch of legit hiking trails. In this video, my wife Yoza and I hike the GR221 (the “Dry Stone Route”) coast to coast—about 150 km in 7 days—sleeping only in our tent. We went in early April, and honestly the weather was pretty much perfect: around 20°C in the day and 10°C at night. I can’t imagine doing this in summer when it’s too hot. This was a proper adventure, but not always comfortable. The wind was a constant theme—finding flat tent spots on the GR221 can be tricky, and we slept pretty bad one night because it was so windy. Another big takeaway: “dry stone” is a very accurate name. We didn’t see running water—no springs, no rivers—so we refilled in towns (or even asked at a bar). The trail itself is often old stone mule tracks, and while it’s wild and beautiful, it’s also popular in spring, so expect to see plenty of other backpackers. At the end, I also share the one section I’d personally skip: from Pollença to Port de Pollença, because it was boring, flat, and right next to a busy highway.
