About This Video

In this Rolodex Series episode, I’m playing “for the love of fiber” and building a little mixed media Rolodex card that’s all about texture, layers, and that cozy, tactile feeling you get from yarn and tissue. I’m working on a Journaldex Watercolor Rolodex Card Mini and bringing in fiber (hello, Malabrigo Mecha in Arco Iris) as a focal point—because sometimes the supply on your table is the whole inspiration. This is one of those projects where you don’t need to overthink it; you just keep adding what feels good and let the layers do the work. I’m using my go-to adhesives and mediums to make sure everything stays put, and I’m adding dimension with Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste (it’s such an easy way to get that soft raised texture without fighting your surface). Then I’m bringing in blue tones with Distress color and ink—Faded Jeans is one of those shades that instantly calms the whole piece down and ties the layers together. To finish, I add a little word element because I love a simple sentiment that doesn’t compete with the texture. If you’re craving a slow, playful make that celebrates materials, this one is for you.
