About This Video

In this no-talk gel printing session, I’m all about soft layers, slow prints, and letting the plate do what it wants to do. I work on my Gel Press plates (both the 12” x 12” and the little 3” x 5”) and build gentle, mixed media-style backgrounds with acrylic paint, a couple brayers, and simple mark making. This is the kind of play that’s perfect when you want to create without overthinking—just roll, pull, and see what shows up. I also bring in Ranger Alcohol Inks and my TCW Framed Garden stencil for added interest and those little moments of contrast that make a page feel “done” without getting busy. The takeaway here is that you don’t need to rush your prints or force the outcome—slow layers give you depth, and imperfect pulls are often the ones you end up loving the most. If you’re building an art journal stash, Rolodex cards, or curated pages, these kinds of prints are the best foundation to come back to later and collage, stitch, or write over.
