In this full review, I’m looking at the Thorn T023 (T023) — a proper vintage Submariner-style homage that, unfortunately, you still can’t buy on AliExpress at the time I recorded this (15 Oct 2025). All the previous dial options I saw before (including this blue, plus the darker/vintage tones) basically disappeared, and I honestly don’t know why. My guess is the risky “Submariner” text they printed on the dial at 6 o’clock might have caused issues, but that’s just my assumption. Spec-wise, it’s a really sweet-wearing size: 40mm diameter, 12.4mm thick, 46.6mm lug-to-lug, 20mm lug width, running the PT5000 automatic. You get a 316L case with brushed top, polished sides, drilled lugs, a coin-edge 120-click bezel with an intentionally aged-looking aluminum insert, and a sterile caseback that needs a special tool (annoying). The matte blue dial with vintage-style lume and snowflake hands is the main reason I like it — it nails that old-school vibe. My biggest complaint is the crown action when screwing it back in; it’s fiddly and I need my fingernails to catch the threads properly around the crown guards. The bracelet looks the part with faux rivets, but the stamped clasp is very thin and dents/scratches easily, so I ended up swapping to a rubber strap and tried a few Vario straps too. If you can still find this watch, I’d say get it — because right now, I can’t find another AliExpress option that’s truly similar with an automatic movement.
