Welcome to vlog 2 of my Sorting My Home Out series, where I finally stop ignoring what I’ve been moaning about for ages and properly tackle the living room. I started by doing my “issues list” method (masking tape on the door, problems only, no solutions), because it forces me to notice the daily annoyances—like the TV blocking the shutters, the rugs being too small and wrinkling up, and that electric stove in the fireplace that never gets used. And then… the big one: saying goodbye to my well-loved IKEA sofa that’s been with me for well over 15 years (patched up underneath with tape, springs poking through, and thoroughly “enjoyed” by Pumpkin and Mittens). Instead of rushing out to buy something new, I moved the comfier sofa down from the loft and did a proper trial-and-error layout shuffle. I tested a few “controversial” options (yes, including putting the sofa in front of the fireplace) to see what actually works in a real London home with radiators, shutters and awkward angles—not a showroom. The big takeaway is: write the problems down, live with the list for a bit, and experiment before you spend. Even small shifts can give you more floor space, better light, and a layout that finally feels like it’s working for real life.
