In this video I jump into the Vinyl Tag 2025—20 questions that get passed around the vinyl community—and I had a blast doing something different from my usual reviews and gear talk. I shout out Graybeard’s Nation (great meeting you at the U Washington record show) and then I run through my picks with records pulled straight from my shelves. Highlights include my best score of 2024: an original Monarch pressing of The Stooges’ debut that I snagged at a North Carolina flea market for $40 in near-mint shape. For 1974 I go with Steely Dan’s “Pretzel Logic,” and for a genre-defining album it’s Nirvana “Nevermind” (I’ve got the Pallas/Bernie Grundman cut that’s still in print and sounds killer without paying original prices). I also hit the fun stuff: Pearl Jam as my top U.S. band, Freddie Mercury as the artist I miss most, and “Liver Than You’ll Ever Be” as my favorite live album (yeah it’s a bootleg, but it’s a legendary soundboard-style recording). For breakup duty it’s Fleetwood Mac “Rumours,” best drums is Led Zeppelin IV (Bonham—enough said), and my “bag of weed” pick is Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon.” I talk labels (Blue Note—Tone Poet/Classics all day), pressings to avoid (that MCA rainbow “Who’s Next”), my favorite RSD spin (a Doors comp with rare mono mixes), and I wrap it up with why I think the VC needs more tags like this: you don’t need a $100k system—just get involved and have fun.
