About This Video

In this video I’m catching up on my recent pickups after the holidays and through January, mostly from a Florida trip, plus one I grabbed off eBay. I only picked up five records, but they’re all solid: two original mono Horace Silver Quintet titles (deep groove, RVG stamp, Plastylite ear), Neil Young & Crazy Horse “Ragged Glory” (back in print and mastered from the analog tape), and a killer 1980 Japanese pressing of Talking Heads “Remain in Light” that’s basically near mint with all the inserts. If you’re into jazz originals, classic rock, or Japanese pressings, this one’s right in my wheelhouse. I also talk through a quick pressing comparison on Pink Floyd “The Wall,” where I put a 1979 Japanese pressing up against my original US promo copy. The Japanese copy is super quiet with great dynamics, clarity, and instrument separation—almost a more 3D presentation—but like a lot of Japanese pressings, it’s a bit lighter in the bass. The US original still wins for me because it has more drive and low-end punch, but the Japanese pressing is absolutely worth owning, especially if you want a clean copy without the headache. Then I shift into a rant on politics and social issues—something I don’t usually do here. I talk about immigration needing an overhaul with real checks and balances, supporting border security and removing criminals, and why I lose respect the moment protests turn into destroying property. As a soon-to-be retired military veteran who’s spent time in Iraq and Afghanistan, I’m coming at it from a different perspective: this country has problems, but it’s still a great place, and the constant online division isn’t helping anybody.
