About This Video

In this video I finally sit down and give my long awaited, honest review of the Parasound JC3 Jr. phono preamp after living with it for about three to four weeks. I’m not doing a super deep technical nerd-out, but I do hit the highlights: the front-panel mono switch (which I’ve been using a lot), the shielded power supply design, the quality RCA connections, and the gain/impedance settings that make it flexible for different cartridges—especially if you’re running moving coil down the road. More than anything, this was about fixing what I felt was the “kink in the chain” in my system. I was coming from the MoFi StudioPhono, and the JC3 Jr. was light years ahead from literally the first track. The sound opened up, the noise floor stayed super low, and everything had more of that 3D “the music can breathe” effect—especially on jazz where I could hear string plucks and room echo way more clearly. Then I threw on rock like Led Zeppelin II (RL) and even Motörhead, and it brought the slam, bass, and drive in a way that made my room feel alive. If you’re shopping in that $1,000–$1,500 phono stage range, this one made a huge impact in my listening room.
