Hey guys—welcome back to Mitch’s Vinyl Corner. It’s been a minute with the holidays, work, and life, but getting snowed in here in eastern North Carolina gave me the perfect excuse to sit down and run through my latest haul. Huge shout to my wife, because these were my Christmas picks from Acoustic Sounds, and I’ve been on a serious grunge kick. I talk through Temple of the Dog (2016 reissue with the etched side), plus a big chunk of Nirvana—Bleach (the deluxe with the full 2/9/1990 live show), In Utero (the 2013/Steve Albini mix on 45 RPM), and the classic Unplugged (the Bernie Grundman metalwork/all-analog version that sounds really, really good to me). I also round out the haul with Alice In Chains: Dirt (2022), Jar of Flies (30th anniversary—this one hits me every time, especially “Nutshell”), and Facelift (30th anniversary). I’m straight up about what I know and don’t know on sourcing—some of these are from the original tapes, but whether there’s a digital step or not doesn’t make or break it for me if it sounds right. Then I close with the big announcement: the Rhino High Fidelity Doors box set “obi strip” fiasco update. Rhino’s response time was frustrating, but they ultimately rectified it in a huge way by sending me all six individual titles with obis—so I’m selling my original box set copy (cleaned on my Humminguru and played once).
