Hope you’re doing good — I’m back talking One UI 8.5 Beta 1, and it’s officially live on the Galaxy S25 series (I’m rocking the baby S25). In this video I walk through the biggest changes I’m seeing right out the gate, and honestly, 8.5 feels like the definitive One UI 8 that we should’ve gotten in the first place. I start with the lock screen improvements, especially the new Weather Wallpaper toggle that’s been fast and surprisingly accurate for me here in Minnesota (yep, it’s snowing). From there I jump into home screen tweaks like the slimmer Google widget and the upgraded folder widget that lets you expand and launch apps with really snappy animations. The biggest shift, in my opinion, is the Quick Panel. You can finally customize it the way you want — separate or combined layout, move tiles around, and even change the shape/orientation of certain modules if you’ve got the space. I also cover app updates like floating action buttons in the Phone app, a refreshed Gallery layout (plus Studio splash screen), and a cleaner Calculator with better equation/history flow. Then we hit Settings changes, Quick Share updates (including the hope for better cross-platform sharing), Health Connect step syncing, revamped Battery stats + Power Saving estimates, a refreshed Device Care, and a much cleaner Software Update page. I wrap with Weather app polish, a nicer Google “tap-to-search” look, faster screenshots, and a new partial screen recording option (and remember: this is Beta 1, so it’ll evolve).
