About This Video

What is up ladies and gentlemen, Mani here. In this one I’m attacking a juicy overhang boulder on the Newton Kenberg—estimated around 7B—and it’s basically a love letter to raw power, upper body strength, and actually using your feet instead of hanging around like a noob. I break the line down move by move: undercling start, big dyno to a slopey dish, then you’re immediately dealing with two counteracting forces where a clean toe hook is the difference between control and chaos. The key coaching takeaway is how I “calibrate” those opposing forces: toe hook to stabilize, then a second dynamic move to a shallow edge/volume, and later a heel hook + match that sets up the Gaston sloper sequence. I show a comparison that makes it super obvious—if my non-hooking leg isn’t stepping against the wall and pushing into the target hold, I’m just floating and missing. From there it’s all about switching the hand to re-create counteracting forces, stepping a tiny screw-on pebble to free the left foot, and then driving hips and feet up to match a really bad volcano top. Body strength, yes—but smart tension and foot pressure is what makes it work.
