About This Video

What is up ladies and gentlemen, Mani here. In this one I react to Toby Roberts’ “juicy” training footage for Perfecto Mundo 9b+, and I basically try to reverse-engineer what makes him so damn dangerous on steep endurance: a 50-move circuit on a 50° board, done on wooden holds. I’m a massive advocate of wooden holds because they force you to grip actively, you can’t cheat with friction, and you usually trash your skin less—meaning you can actually train longer. I also talk about benchmarks: what you track (strength, flexibility, power endurance) and how you track it (same board, same setup), because continuity over months/years is everything. Then I get into the spicy part: body type and performance. Toby is that super-lean “kid spider mode” build—finger strength divided by bodyweight is, in my opinion, the biggest factor for high-end sport climbing, and he ticks that box hard. At the same time, I point out he’s still relatively controlled/slow when he’s pumped, with little foot-search moments and half-dynamic, half-static decisions—very “competition climber” behavior. My takeaway: physically he’s insanely optimized already, and if he stacks more outdoor meters and learns to execute faster and more dynamically on known sequences, he’s going to crush Perfecto Mundo—and way beyond.
