Hey what is up everybody, Manny here — and yeah, 2024 started rough. Our car got stolen on a winter escape trip, and it didn’t magically reappear. All the stuff inside was gone too: climbing gear, bed sheets, laptop, audio recorder, hard drives… I’d estimate around €8,000 damage, which might not sound insane to some people, but for us it was a massive hit financially and psychologically. We had to come back by train, and because we live super rural, we basically couldn’t function without a car — so we stayed at my mom’s place for a while (thanks Mom) and I spent one to two weeks checking like 10–15 secondhand cars to find a “new old car.” This video is also about credits where credit is due. I’m thanking supporters who helped at exactly the right time: Mato for the huge Patreon support, Andreas for a generous PayPal donation, and Torsten + Alex for basically rebuilding my climbing kit out of nothing (shoes, harnesses, rope, quickdraws, GriGri, chalk bag). That mattered a lot because I could only attend my instructor upgrade course thanks to having gear again. And then: back to training. Jacob from Fingerschinder sponsored me a new portable hangboard (mine got stolen too), so I’m back on one-arm-heavy hangs using my “move one hand toward the middle” trick instead of a pulley. Bodyweight was about 70 kg, strength felt surprisingly okay after the break, and the “work effect” from a recent route-setting + testing session definitely helped.
