About This Video

Ryon 7146 asked how to get clean, perfect cuts in cardboard with only scissors, so in this video I walk you through a full approach—and I tested it by building a little holder for my computer hub to keep all my cables organized. The big idea is that scissors are a limited implement, so you’ve got to design for them. That means planning your project around straight lines, avoiding internal angles you can’t turn inside of, and staying away from curves that force your blades to fight the material. Then I share the 5 pro tips that make scissors actually work on cardboard: (1) plant the craft—break complex shapes into smaller pieces you can cut straight and glue later, (2) cut thin stuff—chipboard or single-wall is way friendlier than double-wall, and if you must cut thick cardboard, go along the corrugation, (3) rough cut—trim a big piece down first so you can come in from more angles for detail cuts, (4) cut small chunks—divide long cuts into short snips to reduce resistance, and (5) avoid the bad side—scissors will damage one face more than the other, so control your shear angle and choose which side you want to look clean.
