About This Video

In this video I walk you through my 5-step C.R.A.F.T. Framework for turning plain cardboard boxes into basically anything you can imagine—without getting to the end and feeling frustrated that it didn’t turn out the way you wanted. I built this framework from the way professional engineers develop products, but I’m translating it into something you can actually use at your kitchen table with simple materials. C.R.A.F.T. stands for Consider, Research, Architect, Fabricate, Tune. First, I “Consider” by letting an idea roll around in my head for a few days—breakfast, car, shower, walks—because both focused thinking and subconscious thinking matter. Then I “Research” so I’m not reinventing the wheel: Google, images, Amazon product ideas, YouTube tutorials, and even AI like ChatGPT (with good prompting and a healthy “nope, that’s dumb” filter). After that I “Architect” in a notebook: sketch multiple concepts, refine them, set priorities (need/want/explore), and even prototype so I can fail early on paper instead of late in glue. Then I “Fabricate” using a best-build list so the order is clean and efficient. Finally, I “Tune” by looping back and improving the project over time—because I don’t like using the f-word: finished.
