In this one, Jay and I are in full “garbage time hobby video” mode and we’re basically building a 2026 wish list for hobby products. We’re coming at it as two hobby store owners and two guys who’ve been painting for nearly 30 years, so we’re looking at what’s actually happening in the market: Army Painter leveling up with Fanatic, speed paints/markers, AK’s quick gen stuff and panel liners, Vallejo reworking huge chunks of their range (including that new True Metallic Metal), Pro Acryl expanding like crazy, and even smaller brands constantly dropping new tools and paints. The big controversial bit is Citadel. Contrast was a legit revolution, but outside of that we feel like there’s a ton of opportunity being left on the table—especially when everyone else is “feasting on the vacuum” and iterating on what Citadel already established. We talk about how the base/layer system can confuse newer painters (“it’s just paint”), why metallics are a massive low-hanging fruit (we want way more metal colors), and why Citadel could also easily expand into better brushes, more primers, and a real varnish lineup. We also call out what we think 2026 looks like: a bit of a copycat year, with more companies expanding metallic ranges because, shocker, everything has a gun, sword, engine, or armor. And yeah—someone please make legit hobby-branded lighting we can actually stock.
