In this video, we crack open a care package from the folks at Free Company and do a super raw, “what’s in the box?” reaction to Elf Fall Chronicles. It’s a 2-player starter that immediately hits us with that polished retail vibe: beautiful packaging, a small-format rulebook that’s actually bound well, high quality cardstock tokens, templates, dice, and each force packed in its own little box. Right away we’re looking at it like hobbyists and retailers—this is the kind of box you front-face on a shelf because it just looks good. Where it really surprised us is the miniature quality and the material. They’re using Unicool thermoplastic/resin, and it’s ridiculously clean—like, “I’m trying to find cleanup” clean. The parts have that modern “click together” feel, super glue assembly, minimal flash, and the spindly bits don’t feel like they’re going to instantly tragic-end on you. Rules-wise, it reads like a fantasy Infinity vibe with action/reaction, lots of states and skills, and it’s on a 3x3 table—tight, zoomed-in skirmish gaming. Big takeaway: smaller companies can absolutely deliver a starter set experience that rivals (and in some ways beats) bigger companies. Plus, with solo/co-op and that D20 accessibility, it’s got real crossover appeal for D&D, dungeon crawler, and Kingdom Death-style collectors too.
