About This Video

In this video, I’m basically doing the “who ordered this?” routine… and then remembering, oh yeah, it was me. I was on a call with our rep and he asked if we wanted this rack of AK basing products, and I was like, “Hell yeah, baby. Basing products. Fire it up.” So we crack open AK’s new lineup of basing sands, gravel, and rocks and talk about why this stuff actually matters in the wargaming hobby right now. The big takeaway is simple: texture pastes haven’t replaced everything. Sometimes you just need a jar of rocks—slate, bigger grit, flat angular pieces—so your bases don’t look like the same cookie-cutter texture paste job. My favorite way to use this stuff is to lay down a neutral texture paste (or heavy texture), then while it’s still drying, jam in rocks and sprinkle gravel. That gives you levels, more 3D shape, and those little details that add realism fast. AK filling this niche is a win because it keeps hobbyists from having to run to railway/model shops just to finish a base properly.
