About This Video

This week on the hobby channel we actually try to do hobby things (instead of just talking about them)… and we tackle the paint people keep asking me for: Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White. I keep hearing, “Do you have the bold titanium white?” and I’m always like, what do you need that for—what are you shooting with this white? So we put it on a Stormcast and do a real, slightly-chaotic live demo where the model is being weirdly shiny/greasy and the paint doesn’t want to grab at first. Once it bites though, holy cow—one coat coverage is genuinely impressive for a white. We also zoom out and talk about the bigger “why” behind the hype. Yes, it’s opaque, it’s not super thick, and it’s not chalky like some whites can get when you’re trying to jam them over dark undercoats. But I also don’t really paint flat, pure white anymore because it kills depth and flattens detail—your eye can’t resolve rivets and shapes when everything is just blasted white. Most of the time I’d rather build “white” with warm grays, medium sea gray, pale sand, or ice yellow tones, and then use true white sparingly as the final apex highlight. If you need an opaque white, this does the thing—but I’m still going to ask you: why?
