About This Video

In this video I’m talking about the cordless rotary drill tools that have been popping up everywhere lately (Amazon, Temu, and now even hobby brands like AK). The big question is simple: is it actually good, and should you buy one for miniature work? I walk through how the tool works, how the collet/key setup tightens the bit, and what to watch out for—especially not over-tightening and shredding that little hex key. Also, double-check what your kit includes, because not every box comes with bits. For me, the reason I like this thing is I’m just done with spending forever on a manual pin vise. I’m lazy—if a tool saves me time on annoying jobs like drilling and pinning, I’m in. I demo it on a Blood Knight that’s basically held on by two legs, and show how I’d pilot-hole first (pin vise or a sharp point still matters), then drill on low speed. It cuts fast, the torque isn’t insane (it’ll stall if you push too hard), and it’s easy to control so you don’t over-drill. You may get melted plastic stuck on the bit, so keep an X-Acto handy to clean it off. Overall: I’m happy to switch after decades of manual drilling.
