About This Video

In this video, I’m reacting to Games Workshop changing the paint branding from “Citadel Colour” to “Warhammer Colour.” A bunch of you asked if we were going to cover it, and yeah—we did, even if it’s mostly a “nothing burger” for anyone already deep in the hobby. From my perspective (30 years in, plus decades working in the retail side of this), it’s not like people were walking into stores constantly confused about whether Citadel paint works on Warhammer models. That problem basically doesn’t exist in-person. Where it does make sense is online. Search matters now, and “Warhammer paint” is what new people type—so having the bottles say Warhammer is just a business doing a business thing. It’s part of GW “growing up” as a company: cleaning up old legacy names that only exist because they always existed. My only real bummer takeaway is that if they were planning a big paint range overhaul or new formula this year, I feel like they would’ve rolled the rebrand into that—so this might signal we’re not getting anything major soon. Either way, I’ll probably still call them Citadel paints for the rest of my life.
