About This Video

How’s it going again, hobby friends—Jay here from Lords of War Games Hobby Channel, and this week it’s all Jay all the time. In this video I’m showing my “crazy new formula” for that yellow, sickly Maggotkin/Nurgle skin, using a super simple highlight and blend approach that plays nice with Quick Gen / contrast-style paints. The model starts with a zenithal white, then I hit it with a plague yellow Quick Gen layer and a putrid, grimy shade (I’m pretty sure I used the Age Metal shade), and from there it’s all about getting the highlights to pop without killing the gross green-brown depth underneath. The main trick: I mix my plague yellow with a bit of Ice Yellow, but I don’t rely on the contrast paint alone because it’s too thin. I add an opaque paint into the mix so it has some body, then I use it like a heavy glaze—thin, translucent, and controlled—catching the ridges, folds, and high points. If it ever gets too “loud” (too bright), I just go back over it with straight plague yellow to blend it back down. I also talk through working around dense details like the triple-face area, and how later you can push the brightest spots with pure Ice Yellow, then come back for teeth, eyes, and all the little gross details.
