About This Video

In this video we circle back to the AK Playmarkers about six months later and answer the real question: do we still like them, and who are they actually for? When they first came out, everyone thought they were a cool idea but wasn’t sure what they’d use them for. After selling and using a bunch of them, the big revelation is that brand new and super casual painters are the ones gravitating to them the most—especially D&D folks and parents trying to get their kids into painting without buying a whole hobby setup. I talk about using a metallic Playmarker on a Horus Heresy Spartan tank while watching hockey at my desk—no palette, no water, no extra gear. That’s the power here: pop the cap, do a boring basecoat task like tracks, straps, belts, or basing, then cap it and walk away. We also address the early worry about drying out, and in our experience they just… don’t. The main downside is the limited color range (and a couple blues that are basically the same), but the pump/flow system and brush-style tip make them way easier than felt-tip “speed marker” style products. Bottom line: not revolutionary, but a legit niche tool that’s sticking around.
