About This Video

In this video Jay and I put the new Army Painter “Most Wanted” brush set through what I call the quick, real-world test: can I actually paint with it right now, and does it feel like it’s going to fall apart like the old ones did? Historically, I’ve not been a fan of Army Painter brushes—value for money was “meh,” and I’ve had older ones that felt frankly junk. But Army Painter has been fixing a lot lately (Fanatic paints are legitimately better and I use them all the time now), so I wanted to see if the brushes got the same treatment. We break down the set (a “1” layering/standard brush, an insane-detail 5/0, and a small flat drybrush) and I paint highlights and do some blending/glazing on a work-in-progress Leagues of Votann character. These are synthetic “bionic bristles,” and the big question is always: do they keep a point, do they place paint where you want it, and do they have enough flex to do more than just basecoats? Initial impressions: the brush feels surprisingly solid, the paint flows nicely, it stays straight, and I don’t hate it—which is honestly a win. My main gripe is the triangle/square handle near where I naturally choke up on the brush, so it’ll take adjustment. But for about $38 CAD for three brushes, they pass the “10-minute test,” and I’d actually tell someone to give them a go—especially if you want a versatile synthetic option alongside your sable set.
