In this video, I’m Chris and I’ve got Jay with me on the Lords of War Games Hobby Channel, and we’re tackling the question people keep asking: are these Chinese paint brushes actually worth the hype? Golden Maple has been pitching us pretty aggressively, and this is the second time we’ve received brushes unsolicited—so instead of doing the usual “fresh out of the box” first impression, we put them through real hobby use. I’ve been running one of their kolinsky-style brushes as a workhorse for about 3–4 months, and I also handed a couple out to friends I trust to see how they hold up long term. We crack open their “K series” set, look at the packaging, and talk honestly about what matters: hair quality, density, spring/snap, and whether the sizing even makes sense (spoiler: the sizing is a bit weird, and the “double zero” is basically mislabeled). The dry brushes look synthetic (maybe a blend), but the density and spring feel solid right away. On the kolinsky side, the big takeaway is these brushes have more flex than snap—so if you’re a GW-style edge highlight person, you might not love them, but if you glaze, blend, and paint fabrics/capes like I do, they’re genuinely useful. Bottom line: I would buy them, and we’re even considering bringing them into the shop as a more affordable option alongside the premium brands.
