About This Video

In this video, I’m Chris and I’ve got Jay with me, and we’re finally answering the big question: what the heck do you use panel liner for? We crack open a black precision panel liner (the kind Gunpla folks have been using forever) and show how it works on wargaming minis as a quick, clean way to add shade and contrast—without slapping a wash over the whole model. The applicator is super fine right out of the jar, so you can just touch it to a recess and it basically wicks itself into the cracks. The big takeaway is that enamel-based panel liner flows really well and gives you that sharp “opposite of edge highlighting” look. It’s especially awesome if you airbrush like I do, because it preserves those fades and blends you already worked for—then you just punch in the panel lines and recesses after. If you want it to behave even better, hit the model with a satin or gloss varnish first so the liner settles into the lines and doesn’t stain the flat areas as much. And if you mess up, you can clean it with spirits and basically magic-erase the mistakes.
