I streamed The Game Awards 2025 (and yeah… I didn’t even realize there was a pre-show at first), and this one was pure chaos in the best and worst ways. The opening act had everything from Donkey Kong Bonanza taking “best family game,” to accessibility getting a spotlight (Doom: The Dark Ages won), to the indie category where I was basically like “I’ve seen every game before” while still respecting how hard it is to ship, especially for first-time teams. I was also juggling chat, dual-streaming, and being roasted live for not finishing games—classic. Once the main show kicked in, the tone got real fast with Jeff Keighley talking about losing his home in the LA fires and his dad passing away. That hit, and you could hear it in his voice. Then they immediately snapped back into “world premiere” mode with a Star Wars reveal that genuinely made me lose my mind—like, that’s how you start a show. We also got Miss Piggy showing up, a bunch of trailers that felt like clones of other games, and then the big statue mystery payoff: Divinity Original Sin 3 (or at least Divinity—either way, that reveal was a moment).
