When the original PG32UCDM dropped, it was basically the best OLED gaming monitor on the market for pure 4K 240Hz QD-OLED picture quality and that 138 PPI. But the market changed fast—PG32UCDMR brought full-speed DisplayPort 2.1 (80Gbps) and the proximity sensor, and the 27-inch PG27UCDM exists now with higher PPI and less desk footprint. So in this video I’m answering the real question: does the PG32UCDM Gen 3 actually move the needle enough to upgrade, return, or sell your older unit? The headline is Black Shield. I tested it against the older semi-glossy QD-OLED look, and it’s a substantial upgrade: it basically kills that purple/red tint you’d see in ambient lighting and improves black levels across the board. It’s still not the “dark abyss” true black glossy look from WOLED panels like my XG32UCDMG, but it closes the gap enough that I’m genuinely back on the QD-OLED train—especially because Gen 3 also bumps brightness to HDR500 (I measured 536 nits in a 10% window), and that makes HDR highlights and color pop look downright gorgeous in games like Dead Space, Cyberpunk, The Last of Us, and Red Dead. I also cover the feature upgrades (native PiP/PbP, internal power supply, DP 2.1, proximity sensor, OLED Pro Care, aspect control). Bottom line: this is my new favorite 4K 32-inch gaming monitor right now, and I’d rate it around a 9.5–9.7 with my nitpicky standards.
