In this video I’m breaking down ASUS’ new pre-CES announcement: the ROG Swift PG32UCDM Gen 3. This is basically the third iteration of the PG32UCDM lineup (base PG32UCDM, then the PG32UCDMR with DP 2.1 and the proximity sensor), and now Gen 3 stacks a 4th gen QD-OLED panel on top of that. On paper, this is shaping up to be the “enthusiast pick” for a long time, especially if you haven’t jumped into OLED/QD-OLED yet and you want the best all-in-one option. The big headline is the new Black Shield film. It’s tackling two of the most annoying QD-OLED realities: that purple-ish tint in bright ambient light (ASUS is claiming about a 40% reduction), and the scratch-prone surface that makes people baby their panels when cleaning. ASUS is also bringing HDR500 True Black, OLED Care Pro, full DP 2.1 (80Gbps), and the proximity sensor that turns the screen off when you walk away without the usual “wake from sleep” annoyance. I’m getting a test unit soon, so I’ll put all of this to the test and see if it’s actually a worthy upgrade over the UCDM/UCDMR—or just the new go-to for first-time buyers.
