http://LongPlayVinyl.com In this video I am talking about a brand new record that I got as a gift and it came damaged. It wasn't damaged during shipping but it was a bad pressing directly from the factory. Since the vinyl popularity is on the rise I can only imagine that pressing plants pay a lot less attention to quality control since their main goals is to put out as many records as possible. In this particular case I was lucky because the record came from Amazon and they sent me a replacement copy without asking too many questions.

About This Video

Hi folks, Sasha here from LongPlayVinyl. In this video I’m not reviewing Amy Winehouse “Back to Black” as an album—I’m talking about a brand new copy that showed up defective straight from the factory. When I opened it, both sides of the record had a whole bunch of little bumps on the surface—like tiny hardened drops of plastic/vinyl. Those raised spots made the record completely unplayable: the stylus gets stuck skipping in the same spot, you hear tons of popping and cracking, and you can literally see the arm jumping up and down. Because it was a gift ordered through Amazon, I requested an exchange. Amazon sent me a replacement within a few days and told me to keep (or throw away) the defective one—no return needed. What’s interesting is the codes and markings looked the same on both copies, but the bad one felt thicker and heavier, almost like 180g, while the replacement felt lighter. The main takeaway: sometimes “new” vinyl is defective from the pressing plant and slips past quality control, so don’t assume it’s shipping damage—inspect it, and don’t be afraid to ask for a replacement. Also, I played the bad copy on an old sacrificial turntable, not my main deck.
