About This Video

At Montreal Audio Fest 2018, I grabbed a quick chat with Danny Labrecque, co-founder and designer of Luna Cables, to get the straight story on what makes their high-end cables different. Danny explained that Luna Cables are entirely hand-built, and that they deliberately favor natural materials—like cotton—over plastics and other common materials that, in his experience, can “corrupt the sound.” The goal, as he put it, is to keep the cable as quiet as possible so the emotive qualities of the music come through, instead of adding a more “mechanical” character. We also talked about where the work actually happens: Danny’s based in the Eastern Townships outside Montreal, and his workshop is attached to his home—he even dyes the cotton by hand. On the price question (because yeah, these aren’t your $20 cables), he broke it down into a short answer and a long answer: the short version is that the cables are voiced to let the music through, and the long version is constant prototyping and re-listening to every detail from A to Z. His mindset is simple and I respect it—once you think you’ve got it all figured out, you stop getting better. If you’re curious, he points everyone to lunacables.com and mentions they’ve got dealers in the US and Europe too.
