About This Video

In this video I’m out at the JMR Quarry in Blanch, North Carolina, giving you an underwater tour and showing you what makes this spot such a solid place to dive and train. I’m here with a couple friends and we’re doing some deco diving—JMR will get you down around 90–91 feet—so it’s a great quarry if you want real depth and a controlled environment to practice. I also break down what the NCPDRA (originally the Piedmont Diving and Rescue Association) is all about and why their quarry membership is such a good deal. For one yearly payment you get 24/7 access to three quarries, and it’s set up like a gated community—renew each year and you’re in whenever you want. JMR tends to get dove the least out of the three, so it’s usually the cleanest, and the quarry is aerated to eliminate thermoclines and help keep temps steady top to bottom. On the tour you’ll see some of the fun underwater attractions like the buses, an airplane, cars, boats, a motorcycle, and the “shark tank” you can actually swim into. If you’re in the VA/NC/SC area (or even traveling in), this is one of those places that can really open your eyes to more local diving opportunities.
