What’s up, guys—Brian again from Lake Hickory Scuba & Marina. In this video I’m taking you right back to Cozumel for part eight of our species-spotting series, and we’re diving my absolute favorite site on the island: Palancar Gardens. This spot is in the same area as Palancar Caves, and the big reason I love it is the coral structure—just unreal—and the amount of swimthroughs you can explore. You could spend hours and hours weaving through them and still not see everything that’s there. For this dive, I challenge you to find three species along the way: the red lionfish, the queen angelfish, and the white grunt. You’ll see these around Cozumel, but Palancar Gardens really makes you work for it—in a good way—because you’ll need to get your eyes into the crevices, and a flashlight helps a ton when you’re trying to spot critters tucked back in the structure. I also talk about how this site can be great for beginners if you stay up top, or great for advanced divers if you want to drop down and run the swimthroughs.
