About This Video

What’s up guys—Brian here from Lake Hickory Scuba & Marina, and in this video I’m taking you diving the Yucab Reef in Cozumel, Mexico. This is video nine and the last one in this whole Cozumel ecology series, where I’ve been challenging you to spot specific marine life throughout the dive. Yucab is a very shallow reef with a very mild current, which makes it a great option for newer divers, but it’s still an absolutely beautiful dive for advanced divers too because of the marine life and the vibrant coral colors. On this dive I want you to keep your eyes open for three species: the French grunt, the jawfish, and a seaworm. These are the kind of critters that are often just out in the open, so you don’t have to work too hard to find them—if you’re paying attention. I also talk about why Yucab is a solid site for instructors and students: lots of sandy area and open space, and not a bunch of overhangs or swim-throughs to complicate things. If you want to go deeper on fish, coral, and overall ecology, I recommend checking out the SSI Ecology Programs—they’re easy to take at home or through an SSI training center and they’ll make you a safer, more educated diver.
