About This Video

If you dive dry gloves and you notice your hands getting wet—and a lot of cold—you’ve got a leak somewhere. The problem is, dry gloves don’t leak like a drysuit does. With a suit, you can usually tell where it’s coming from based on what part of you gets wet first. With gloves, when they leak, they can fill up quick, and it’s tough to pinpoint the exact hole. In this video I walk you through how I find that leak, even when it’s just a pinhole you can’t see. I start by pulling my dry glove assembly apart and doing a basic visual inspection of the glove, ring, and the spinner ring area. Then I turn the glove inside out so I can do a simple water “pressure test” without soaking the liner. I fill the glove with water, add a little squeeze pressure, and watch for droplets pushing through—thumb, fingers, between fingers, wherever it shows up. Once I find it, I mark the spot with a marker. If it’s a small, isolated leak, I’ll patch it with Aqua Seal and keep diving. But if it’s leaking in multiple places, I don’t overcomplicate it—I toss the glove and grab a spare from my Save-a-Dive kit.
