About This Video

What’s up guys—Brian here from Lake Hickory Scuba & Marina. In this video I’m kicking off part one of a nine-video Cozumel series, and we’re starting on one of my favorites: the San Francisco Wall. I walk you through what to expect on this site, why it works for both beginner and advanced divers, and how to enjoy it as a nice, fun, relaxing drift dive. Most dives in Cozumel are guided, and this one typically has a mild to moderate current—so you can drop in, relax, and let the current push you along the reef while you take in those stunning vertical drop-offs. To make it more than just a “watch me dive” video, I turn this dive into a little game. As you follow along, I want you to try and spot three species: the blue chromis, the yellowtail surgeonfish, and the green sea turtle. My big takeaway is simple: don’t exceed what your certification allows, stay aware of depth on the wall, and use dives like this to sharpen your fish ID. If you want to get better at identifying what you’re seeing, I recommend checking out the SSI ecology programs—they’re easy, fun, and they genuinely make you a better diver.
