About This Video

In part three of my 2026 rig rundown, I’m laying out every regulator set I’m actually using this year—and why I keep so many of them ready to go. The short version is: I own a dive shop, I’m a dive instructor, I love regulators, and it’s way more practical to grab the right rig for the dive than constantly reconfigure one set. I walk left-to-right across the table and explain what each reg is, how it’s routed, and what type of diving it’s assigned to. I start with my lightweight Mares 62X setup that I use as a teaching and all-around recreational rig, then move into a pair of Mares 52X first stages that are specifically configured as decompression regs (not sidemount), complete with 120° swivels so they deploy clean and hit my mouth correctly without fighting hose routing. From there I show my technical sidemount setup using Mares 28X first stages, including why I prefer standard-length LP inflator hoses so I can still manage buoyancy if I’m pushing a bottle out. For doubles and cold/ice diving, I switch to rubber hoses on my Mares Navy Abyss system because I want that extra friction to help keep the air warmer and reduce freeze-up risk. Finally, I cover my true workhorse Ocean Reef setup for public safety/commercial-style dives—plus how I swap in my Neptune 3 full face mask using quick disconnects and why I still prefer analog gauges for that kind of work.
