In part six of my 2026 Rig Run Down series, I’m breaking down the dive masks I’m personally wearing this year—two traditional masks and one full face mask. On the desk I’ve got two Mares Liquid Skin X-Vision masks (same model, different color schemes) plus my Ocean Reef Neptune 3 full face mask that I use for work diving. I’ll show you how each one is set up and, more importantly, what I actually use them for in the real world. My go-to for basically everything—teaching, recreational, technical, you name it—is the Mares X-Vision Liquid Skin. I love the Liquid Skin because it’s super soft on my face, and the X-Vision shape gives me the peripheral vision I need without being a huge high-volume mask. One is my primary and the other is a straight-up backup that lives in a drysuit pocket or becomes my backup in sidemount/overhead situations. Then we get into the Neptune 3 full face mask, which is a game changer for the kind of salvage, public safety, commercial, and work diving we do two to three days a week. I’ll cover the extender frame, removable GoPro mount, light mounts, quick release handle, and surface air/quick disconnect setup.
