About This Video

Heat. Heat. What’s up, guys—Bryan from Lake Hickory Scuba & Marina. In this first video of my 2026 Rig Run Down series, I’m kicking things off with the cylinders I’m actually diving this year and, more importantly, why I use each one. I’m down in our tank room/fill station and I’m picking out the specific bottles that make sense for the kind of diving I do—teaching in our lake, quick marina recoveries, sidemount, doubles, deco, and work/public safety-style jobs. I break down my “teaching” tanks first—two pink aluminum 63s (they’re my daughter’s, but I use them constantly) because the color stays obvious in our turbid lake water, so students can always ID me. For quick odd-and-end dives, I love a small aluminum 53 I can throw on fast. Then I go into my workhorses: four compact steel 80s that are easy to handle underwater and have been my go-to for years. I also show my sidemount setup (ten AL80s with left/right valves and adjustable cam straps), my personal manifolded aluminum doubles, and my regular deco options (an AL40 and an AL80 that can be used for nitrox up to 100%). Finally, I cover two older steel 72s I use as work bottles for salvage/commercial/public safety situations when we’re controlling lift from below the surface.
