About This Video

In this Mystery Box Challenge (hosted by Courtney from Creative on the Cheep), I’m unboxing a Christmas-themed box full of random supplies and then turning them into budget-friendly decor. The twist this time? I had to use chenille stems…aka pipe cleaners (because that’s what I’ve called them my whole life) in every single craft. I’ll be honest—when I saw those ā€œlittle fuzz balls,ā€ I was not excited, but I ended up having way more fun with the challenge than I expected. I make a set of elevated Christmas signs using that wooden treasure chest (I literally take it apart), Waverly Crimson chalk paint (my absolute favorite red), and a couple of high-end looking Chalk Couture silk screen stencils. I also transform a coffee creamer bottle into a peppermint mocha ā€œtreatā€ decor piece with puffy paint drips, faux sprinkles, and a Cricut decal—plus a pipe-cleaner handle. From there, I try an ornament idea (wrapping fails…so we pivot), make a kid-friendly snowman bulb ornament, and create framed gingerbread-themed pieces using scrapbook paper, stems/picks, and ribbon (yes, even though I despise ribbon because I can’t make bows). To finish it off, I recreate some gingerbread hutch decor: a faux frosting wooden spoon, a gingerbread ā€œbakeryā€ mug with a straw, and even a faux cake pop using the foam ball inside that ugly pen. Lots of thrift-y, Dollar Tree-friendly ideas, and plenty of real-time ā€œlet’s fix itā€ moments.
