Hey guys, I’m Kristin, and in this video I’m finally redoing the wall behind me that I’ve been hating for way too long. It didn’t make sense, it had random holes everywhere, but we still needed it to function (hello… coat rack + calendar). I decided to tackle a board and batten look even though I’ve never done a project like this fully on my own. I walk you through the not-so-fun prep—taking everything down, sanding, filling a million holes with spackle, and ripping off trim we didn’t need anymore. From there, I measured my wall (98 inches long) and started building out the board and batten layout, aiming for 55 inches high so the coats wouldn’t hang on the floor once I added hooks. My walls are super uneven, so there was a lot of leveling, adjusting, and yes… kind of winging it after watching a few videos. I filled nail holes, caulked (the worst part), sanded again, and painted using my go-to Pittsburgh Paint in Fog (gray is forever in my house) and a bold green called Obligation for the board and batten. To finish it off, I styled the wall with a big Amazon shelf, added hooks (harder than I expected), and mounted my Everblog Calendar. As a stay-at-home mom and full-time DIYer, this calendar has seriously become my command center for schedules, chores, meal planning, to-do lists, and even Netflix while I’m cooking or cleaning.
