In this video I’m showing you a piece of tech in my new workstation setup that genuinely surprised me: the IVANKY FusionDock Max 1 (Thunderbolt 4). I’ve tested IVANKY’s newer Thunderbolt 5 dock too, but here’s the twist—depending on your Mac, the Thunderbolt 4 dock can actually be the better buy. I walk through my real “raw and unfiltered” setup, the ports I’m using day-to-day, and why this TB4 dock feels way more refined and practical for a work-and-play Mac desk. I break down the port selection (SD + microSD, multiple 10Gb USB-A, USB-C, optical audio, Ethernet, dual display support), how I’m running my 4K 120Hz OLED and 1440p 160Hz monitor, and why the dual-host connection design is both a pro and a con. I also keep it real about the downsides: coil whine up close, it runs hot when it’s “firing on all cylinders,” and the included dual cable is basically useless for a Mac Studio unless you do a workaround. Then I compare it to the IVANKY FusionDock Pro 3 (Thunderbolt 5). TB5 is crazy fast on paper (up to 120Gb/s and 8K60 support), but on my M2 Max Mac Studio it’s capped at 40Gb/s anyway—and it gives up too many ports and that clean “disappears into the setup” utility. My takeaway: buy for your actual machine and setup, not just the Thunderbolt number.
