About This Video

In this video, I take you on a full wheelchair-friendly tour of the Red Roof Retreat—our cozy barn-style Airbnb in the Kern River Valley / Lake Isabella area, right up in the Sequoia National Forest region. And I’m not being dramatic when I say it’s one of the only wheelchair accessible short-term rentals around here. We walk through the whole layout and I show you the accessibility stuff that actually matters: 36-inch doors, low threshold ramps (including my “redneck patent” custom rubber ramps), waterproof vinyl flooring, and a big open great-room style space so you’re not fighting tight corners the whole time. I also show the master setup with the Murphy bed (low enough to transfer—because hotel “accessible” beds are always like 2.5 feet taller than me), plus the roll-in shower with a heavy-duty fold-up bench, handheld + overhead shower, cubbies placed for someone sitting down, angled mirror, and grab bars that don’t look all industrial. We talk about the door swing directions and hinge placement too—because if you can’t reach the handle from the toilet, it’s not really accessible. Outside, I show the deck, Traeger, firepit area, lights at night, the filled-in transition to reduce the step, the herb garden, and the fenced yard for kids, pets, or service animals. If you’re looking for an accessible Airbnb near Lake Isabella, Kern River, or the Trail of 100 Giants, this is for you—and yeah, we’ve got s’mores waiting.
