About This Video

Ladies and gentlemen, today I finally drug my own 1990 Foxbody back out of the front yard after it’s been sitting for years. Last time I really drove it was college, and it’s been the beater bomb of all beater bombs ever since—flat-spotted tires, mouse evidence, a seat propped up with a 2x4, and an idle that sounds like it’s got some rat nasty cam in it (but it’s never been “cool on purpose,” it just runs goofy). We aired up the tires, jumped it, crossed our fingers for the fuel pump, and sure enough it fired up and made the trip to town—leaf-fire smell and all. Once it proved it would survive a road test, we got it in the air and made a real plan: fix the trashed trans output bushing situation (the slip yoke had a literal step worn into it), tighten up the loose steering with an adjustment nobody on the internet seems to talk about, and then handle what we’re actually good at—brakes and rear end work. The big upgrade in this one is swapping the 3.08 limited slip for 3.73 gears in the 8.8. I walk through marking caps, watching shim locations, setting pinion depth, reading the pattern (aka Googling), dialing backlash to spec, and setting pinion preload with a crush sleeve—because I want this thing back on the road and faster than it’s ever been in its life.
