About This Video

I feel like I’ve seen this movie before… except this time the clapped-out diesel is black, it’s windy as heck up in Minnesota, and we’re trying to make a bad decision on purpose. In this episode it’s me, Angus, Ezra, and “other Kevin” meeting up with Ezra’s $500 farm-fresh 7.3 Power Stroke Ford that’s been sitting for about three years. No key (until we find one), no batteries, and a whole lot of “show truck” claims that immediately fall apart when we start seeing leaks, crust, and farm funk. But we toss batteries in it, crank it, and sure enough—after a little coaxing—it lights off, idles nice, and reminds you why diesels can be absolute animals after sitting. From there, the theme is simple: can this thing hold its fluids and stop well enough to survive a winter 400-mile round trip so we can go chase snow and ride snowmobiles? We deal with E4OD weirdness that acts like it’s low on fluid, charging system gremlins that “fix themselves,” and an oil leak that turns into the classic 7.3 dipstick tube seal situation. Then we get it in the heated shop and find the real farm-truck truth: sketchy brake lines, trashed drum brakes full of grease, busted-looking hardware, and the kind of “it worked until it didn’t” wear you only get from hauling cattle and living outside. It runs and drives shockingly decent—now we just have to keep it from bleeding out on the road.
