About This Video

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of Junkyard Digs—where I drag home forgotten iron, do real wrenching, and then see if it’ll survive the drive. In this one we finally get back on our 1979 Ford F-150 that I MerCruiser (boat engine) swapped years ago, and I’ll be honest: I don’t remember where we left off. It used to run like three years ago, the exhaust is basically open shorties, the trans lines are looped, the vacuum caps turned into dust, and the heater core decided to mark its territory on the shop floor. What a piece of junk… which is perfect, because now we know where to start. I split the work with the guys: I go after the “runs bad” problem and we tackle the interior/HVAC disaster at the same time. Under the hood, I ditch the finicky Holley situation and swap on an Edelbrock AVS2 because it’s more tolerant and tends to behave better when a truck sits (still not as good as a Quadrajet—nothing sits like a Quadrajet). Inside, we rip into the HVAC box, find mice, discover the blower motor is dead, and end up cleaning everything, replacing the heater core, rebuilding the box, and getting real airflow again. The big takeaway: if you want a revival to be reliable, you can’t just “make it run”—you’ve gotta fix the vacuum leaks, cooling leaks, and all the gross, hidden stuff too.
