If you’re looking for a whole-home smart water monitor that actually plays nice with Home Assistant, this is where Droplet gets interesting. In this video I jump straight into the smart home side of it: I go into Home Assistant, add the Droplet integration, and it’s honestly way too easy. I didn’t even have to hunt down an IP address—once I told the Droplet app I wanted to add it to Home Assistant, it basically just popped up and I finished pairing with the code. Once it’s in, you immediately get useful entities like live flow rate, total water used, and a handful of diagnostics like connection and signal quality. Then I turn on a faucet (and apparently other people in my house decided to use water too), and you can see the gallons-per-minute and total gallons updating in real time. The big takeaway is that you can pull that data into the Home Assistant Energy dashboard under water, so you can track water consumption over time and even break it out—like comparing hot water usage from a tankless water heater versus other water usage. I also talk about how I’d like to get leak info into Home Assistant, and what I might do to bridge that gap in the meantime.
